The dream of our sports-loving students in Zalewa comes true: the soccer and netball fields were opened just in time for the start of the new school year. Teachers, students and their families came together for the opening ceremony and FACE Family Day.
FACE Secondary School hosted FACE Family Day for the first time. “We especially wanted the students’ parents to be there on this day to strengthen the relationship between school and parents,” explains Monika Raaz, FACE volunteer. “We wanted the parents to not only get to know the school grounds, but also the FACE staff.”
The highlight of the day was the opening of the sports field. About 200 visitors watched the sporting highlight: the soccer match between FACE staff and a student selection of the best soccer players, which ended in a fair 5-5 match. A prayer service marked the end of the first FACE Family Day.
Soccer and netball, which are popular in Malawi, are now also at home on the FACE educational campus. In the future, the sports field will be used for physical education classes every Friday.
